Defining the New Digital Workplace at Symphony Innovate 2018

Katherine Kilpatrick

Over 500 executives, engineers, and thought leaders from 180+ global companies came together last week at our third Symphony Innovate in New York. Throughout the day, 13 customers and 19 partners showcased their custom applications, integrations, and chat bots, and more importantly, how those innovations are evolving within the digital workplace.

It was an incredible day filled with inspiring use cases, disruptive workflows, and innovation. Here are my highlights from the day:

Opening Keynote & Product Announcements

Our founder and CEO David Gurlé opened the event by highlighting the growth of the Symphony community, including a 128% growth in bots in one year. He underscored how the new digital workplace removes borders to enable collaboration, disruption, and innovation.

David then introduced our EVP of Global Product Management, Ken Yagen, who announced and demoed key new product features including the new Symphony Desktop Application, Data Loss Prevention, and Symphony for Microsoft Office.

"The new digital workplace requires a connective tissue… Symphony has become this connective tissue allowing you to innovate on top of it." - Ken Yagen, EVP, Global Product Management

Building the New Digital Workplace

The morning continued with five more live workflow demos of bots and applications that Symphony customers & partners use today. Our EVP of Growth & Adoption, Leah Cohen-Shohet, and our Global Head of Workflow, Chris Rodriguez, showcased a “day in the life” on Symphony with guests from AllianceBernstein, BlackRock, BNP Paribas, IHS Markit and RBC.

“Symphony is the connecting network that we can build on that allows us to communicate” - Lou Rosato, Director – Investment Operations, Global Business Strategy and Relationship Management, BlackRock

"With workflows on Symphony, borders come down, and the opportunities become endless." - Leah Cohen-Shohet, EVP of Growth & Adoption

Live Workflows in Action

The afternoon was jam packed with nine breakout sessions across three tracks, with live demos from our customers and partners. These tracked focused on connecting your internal and external community, managing the risk of human error, and the importance of sending and consuming content in context.

It was powerful to see the bots, applications, and workflows the community has built - some over the past year, and some in just a matter of weeks.

“Bots in Symphony provide an intuitive interface with every part of the firm...and support frictionless cross firm workflows.” - Corey Kenyon, Goldman Sachs

“We decided to focus on workflow to simplify and automate our processes at SocGen, and we started to create this workflow on Symphony & SGBOT” - Sylvain Salvetti, Société Générale

The event brought the community together to share & discover the latest innovative workflows, build the Symphony network, and learn from each other. As David said in his keynote, “It’s about the community. It’s about the network. It’s about you.” I cannot wait to see what our community will showcase at Symphony Innovate 2019!
